It's got a proper rubber seal around it which is fantastic and I actually put this instruction manual here in this potato planter, that was put in four years ago. I've never taken it out and as you can see it's perfect and that's a sign that it's completely dry, never leaks, never drops, carry a first aid kit in here, on my tools bits of strap it's looking untidy now because we're just going to the end of the potato time but there's just room for everything you want in there.

First and foremost is the space. I mean it's easy enough getting the weight on and off the bottom but the space inside is just phenomenal. The amount of stuff that people have had in their cabs over the years, it clutter's about, hits windows, hits everything, just to be able to put it somewhere safe and out the way and not have to think about it. It's all well and good showing them it on paper but when they have a look around the actual box they can see just how well put together they are. Some of the creature comforts it's got like the lift out trays, you can get the vice inside as well. One customer I've got's got a fuel tank in his. You pay for what you get which is a really good top quality box.

It turned up and it's actually a fabulous bit of kit. We found out that the legs they moved quite a lot so anything hard you hit, you know, there constantly moving, and it's just goes through. We don't bring up any big lumps when we're subsoiling. It does a fabulous job. It leaves it very fluffy, light on top, which is perfect for just going over with the disc afterwards. We're going to definitely stick with it and now we'll get a bigger tractor. We're going to probably make it to five metres. Hopefully during the interview you might get a bit cheaper.

I'm Sam Kay. I'm a partner at Wharram and Kay. We're farming 700 hectares in the vale of York. We needed a counterbalance weight for the machines. We researched the market. What made us choose the Ryetec product was that we have varying sizes of tractors so we would need different weights for the front depending on the operation we were carrying out. We decided we would go for a ton and a half block which also has the ton belly weight on the bottom.
The benefit of this type of box is the ton belly weight is detachable by two bolts at the front of the tractor. Really easy, really simple, really quick. So another great feature about the Ryetec weight block is that for the size of the block and the weight that it's holding, it's still got a great capacity of storage area so that we can carry plenty of spare parts in the event of a breakdown in a field. We have the spares and the tools we require with us to fix the problem and carry on with our operation whereas traditionally we didn't have this carrying capacity and we would always have to ring a mechanic or somebody else back at the farm to come and help out which is obviously downtime which we don't want. Our impressions of the product are brilliant. The finished product is well as you can tell. Perfect, it's immaculate. Even little features like the seals make the box water tight and dust proof so any contents inside the box stay clean and dry which is quite an important factor for us.
The initial price did scare us to start with compared to other manufacturers products however once we were invited to the Ryetec facilities we had a tour around the factory and we saw the thought process that went into building this product and the engineering used behind it and that saw itself for us really.

We moved on to a low disturbance cultivation technique probably more than 10 years ago. We were looking for something that's a low disturbance subsoiler, minimise the amount of disturbance in the soil while we're alleviating any compaction. And I've got to say I looked for probably three or four years before I bumped into Ryetec at the Groundswell event. I liked the discussion that we had. We demoed a machine and then bought this after doing a successful demo.

Backups really, really important in the agricultural industry now. In fact, backup (S) is more important than sometimes the product that you're actually buying because if you haven't got the support you can't keep going. I rang up and there was another one in our yard two days later,fixed and ready to go.

The Ryetec is dead easy to operate, its relatively manoeuvrable on the back of a tractor to get into tight spaces, and easy to reverse and dump off. With the scarifying blades on the unit we have also been able to scarify the tees for the first time ever. Its been a fantastic investment for the club. We are using it for a wide range of activities that definitely give benefit to members once its done.

We could have spent three times the money on a competitor, but the end result and quality of finish would have been no better, the Ryetecs are perfectly suited to our needs.
